Solution: 7" LED Headlight Fitment Issues on 1994–2017 Harley Softail Models

If you're experiencing a loose fit when installing a HOGWORKZ 7" LED Headlight on a 1994–2017 Harley-Davidson Softail, you're not alone. These models use a standard 7" round headlight bucket, but small variations in OEM housings can sometimes affect fitment. Here's how to solve it quickly and securely:

Common Issue 1: Loose Fit in the Headlight Bucket

Cause:
Some customers mistakenly use the included HOGWORKZ retainer ring that comes with our mounting bracket. However, this ring is not needed for Softail models and may result in a loose fit.

Solution:

  • Use the OEM Harley retainer ring instead of the one provided in the HOGWORKZ mounting kit.

  • The OEM ring is specifically contoured to seat tightly within the Softail bucket and usually resolves any looseness instantly.

Common Issue 2: Gaps at Mounting Bosses

Cause:
Due to minor OEM tolerance differences across model years, the three mounting bosses on the HOGWORKZ bracket may not sit flush with the headlight bucket, causing minor play or vibration.

Solution:

  • Apply small strips of 3M double-sided foam tape behind the mounting points.

  • This fills in any gaps, creates a snug fit, and helps dampen vibration for a secure installation.
